Gender Neutral Crib Bedding Trend
I think my sister has gone absolutely crazy. Well, that may not have been the best way to start this off, but it frames my rant nicely. She’s going to be having a baby in a few months, and she has pretty much thrown all tradition out the window. Her and her partner have decided that they don’t want to find out what the gender of the child is, and that is fine. I understand the excitement of waiting to find out if you are the proud new parents of a boy or a girl. However, my sister has decided that she wants to keep everything gender neutral even after the baby arrives.
I have noticed quite a trend lately where it seems as though everyone is going for the gender neutral colors. I understand picking out gender neutral clothing for newborns or even getting gender neutral crib bedding for the nursery. But, everything? Is it that cool and hip to have everything in muted tones? Whatever happened to the cute pinks and baby blues that a lot of people have always used to show off that they have a little Mishka or Mikey?
Gender Neutral Crib Bedding Debate
My sister, cousin and I were on the way to the mall to do a little bit of pre-baby shopping, and we got into a heated discussion about whether or not gender neutral was the way to go. I, personally, have always thought that pops of color are terrific for babies. My cousin decided to chime right in with my sister stating that it is the best thing for a child growing up not to have labels and blah, blah, blah. Is this true? I highly doubt that just because I wore a pink frock growing up that I ended up confused about my gender role. I could see about forcing it later on in life, but a room full of beige doesn’t seem to appeal to me as a proud aunt-to-be.

I didn’t realize that what my sister meant about gender neutral crib bedding was really every color of the rainbow. Okay, I may be exaggerating. But, when we got to the store, the first crib sheet set she grabbed was tangerine. Yes, you read that right, tangerine. Not beige, not taupe, not cream or even sandstone. Tangerine. Suddenly, I was intrigued at her vision of a new age nursery.
The more we looked around, I found that there are a whole lot of baby supply chains that are coming out with some of the brightest and boldest colors that you could ever imagine. Certainly, you can find your navy, white, pink, green and yellow. However, there is a new wave of turquoise, lime, coral and even silver shades that are being put into a lot of the gender neutral crib bedding and nursery accessories today that are just so cute. I do know that babies thrive when they have bright colors to stimulate their minds, so I think I might be jumping on this new trend if I have a child in the near future.
The Gender Neutral Finished Product
The nursery that I helped my sister create for her son in complete gender neutral tones is filled with everything from lime green and coral to ecru and a hint of silver. She chose a jungle theme, which is loaded with cute little monkeys, brightly colored birds, giraffes and more. The finished nursery is just beautiful, and I couldn’t imagine my nephew having a totally blue room at this point. Just to think, it all started over a debate about gender neutral crib bedding.
