Crib Mobile Phobia
I don’t know if it is something from his childhood, but my husband seems to have a huge phobia of crib mobiles. We got one for our baby shower, and he hates the thing. The second he saw it he tried to get me to return it, but I really love it and I want to use it in the baby’s nursery. He dropped the subject for a while but now that I am shopping for another mobile to put up in the living room on our portable bassinet, he is starting to act strange about them again. Is there some sort of known phobia that people have with crib mobiles? If so, I would love to hear the name of it and find out more about why they would be so bothered by them.
My Mission: Find a Mobile My Hubby Will Like
Actually, now that I think about it, my husband almost acts as if he will have to be the one who is laying in the crib staring up at the musical mobile all day long. How can something colorful, fuzzy and making soothing sounds be so frightening to a grown man? My mother in law tells me that she never used a crib mobile and doesn’t believe that he has ever had contact with them grown up, so she’s not sure why he would be so against them. While we are all laughing about it, the fact remains that I still wonder why he hates them so. Especially since I am shopping for another one that I want to make sure fits in perfectly with the bassinet that we have. The hunt is on for one that he won’t loathe, I guess.
Simple Crib Mobile Options
I figured that I would look around for cutesy homemade crib mobiles so that we can keep a soft and whimsical feeling going in our living room. The bassinet is an antique, so it goes perfectly with our decor. I would like to have some sort of mobile that is shabby chic in nature so that it meshes designs well with the furniture piece. I was thinking of buying the type of mobile that has hand made characters on it. While looking around, I noticed that there are a lot of sellers that offer beautiful crocheted animals that dangle from a mobile setting. I fell in love with them, but my husband is not a fan.
A Cute Mobile Design for the Crib
Next up, I found a really cute design that almost looks as if the pieces that are hanging from the crib mobile are made from origami that looked like planes and trains (as we are having a boy). Believe it or not, this black and white mobile option didn’t make my husband cringe. Maybe it is the ones that have animals on them that he is bothered by? To find out, I decided to see flout the other origami shapes on the same website that were animals , and he started to complain again. I think I figured out what the issue was.
The Final Crib Mobile Decision
I wanted to go with a mobile that had some sort of animals on it but knowing that my husband has a phobia of them with four legged critters, I had to compromise. I ended up finding the perfect, brightly colored mobile that looks like a tree. A lot of the pieces that hang down are leaves, apples and a few bugs and bees. Nothing has eyes, and nothing is an “animal”. He loves it. And doesn’t complain that it will be staring him in the face each, and every time he either picks the baby up or lays him down to sleep.
If any other moms out there seem to have a husband that has an adverse reaction to a crib mobile, keep in mind that it just might be the simple fact that he doesn’t like them having animals on them. As silly as it sounds, there will be no dangling critters in our household anytime soon. Happy shopping!
